Product Description In a volatile economy, there's one utility you can save with the aid of VOIP technology - your phone service costs. Smart and stylish, the ooma Hub and ooma Scout partner with your high-speed Internet and your existing home phones to deliver free home phone service. Your one-time purchase eliminates monthly bills for U.S. calling and delivers extremely low rates for international calls. Your one-time purchase of an award-winning ooma Hub device frees your phone service. Call anyone, at any number, anywhere in the U.S. without charge. Think how much you pay the phone company each year. Now imagine what you could do with all the money you save.
Ooma is the only company in the history of the telecom industry that lets you own your dialtone. Your one-time ooma purchase eliminates monthly charges for unlimited US calling. Compared to other stand-alone VoIP providers, there are no monthly fees for US calling. Plus, the ooma system has been architected to deliver exceptional voice quality and reliability, giving you the crisp, acoustic performance of a landline, without the associated fees. A number of our customers have reported that ooma delivers "excellent voice quality," "better than landline." Easy-to-read manuals are full of colorful diagrams and simple instructions to make set-up as painless as possible. It takes the average customer less than 20 minutes to activate and install the ooma system. Using the ooma system is even easier! ooma devices have been designed to provide an intuitive out-of-box experience. Ooma can move your number from your current phone provider for a one-time fee of $39.99. To use the ooma Hub device, you need TWO things: 1. A high-speed Internet connection (cable/DSL/fiber-optic); and 2. A home phone.

Poor Customer Service January 10, 2009 James K. Sang (SILVER SPRING, MD USA) I ordered this thing a few days ago and it arrived fairly quickly. This is not a review of the actual equipment and its performance, but of the Oooma Customer service. I currently use Vonage and I wanted to try Ooma. I want to port my current number. Ooma says you must call them after you activate it to complete the porting process. That's where the problem is. I have now been holding on for over 90 minutes listening to an endless if irritating music recording. After holding on for eternity, the line goes quiet and I get disconnected. This, after ponying up $220.00!! So, I must resign myself to trying again and again. I guess I should prepare myself for a long weekend, and perhaps repackage and return the thing. So much for customer service.
Ooma has high value! January 10, 2009 T. Stone (Champaign, IL) I just got my Ooma order a couple days ago Jan '09. It is pretty easy to hook up. I have cable internet. The sound quality is really good. The sound quality is really good. When I hooked it up, I cancelled my landline the next day. I was paying $25/mo. with ATT, so in 9 months this unit will pay for itself. If the power goes out you can put a backup power supply on it and your internet connection. I don't have that now though. You can send faxes over it; I haven't tried that yet though. Caller ID is a standard feature that is free, which is cool. Long distance calls are free. I got a phone number local to my area. It's reliable. I recommend the Ooma very highly. It is a very high value voip box. Thanks Ashton Kutcher and Amazon!
Best VoIP System in America January 9, 2009 Sean Chao (Columbus, Ohio USA) The title says it all. This is the absolute best VoIP phone system in the United States, for the simple fact that you have stunning clarity in all of your calls, excellent support, ability to continue using it after moving residences, and ZERO monetary cost upkeep - FOR LIFE. The worst thing about Ooma is their corny advertisements. If you can get past the cheesiness of their commercials stating how the phone companies are out to sap your hard-earned money till you die, purchasing this product will leave you feeling satisfied and kicking yourself for not doing it sooner. Excellent product, and even more excellent business plan.
Absolutely No Customer Support January 9, 2009 Abe Lincoln (L.I., N.Y.) Great concept and product works well. However, absolutely "No" customer support from ooma. Emails go unanswered, phone calls are put on hold and after 20 minutes you're asked to leave voice mail or the system hangs up. Basic information is not on ooma's website and I can't get through or get a response to port my number. Stay away from this outfit!
I like it. January 9, 2009 Edmund (NJ) I ordered it two days ago and received it today. The setup is really easy, and I am very satisfied with the voice quality. It took me two phone calls to port my number. I waited for 20 minutes at the first time (6pm EST) before being told to leave my name and a phone number by the automate system. About 30 minutes later, I gave it a second try and got very professional help after waiting for about 16 minutes. The scout has not been set up correctly. I plugged a cable from the phone jack on the wall to "wall" on the scout, and then connected the power adapter. The red light was on and off in the first row, then on and off in the second row, and then on forever in the third row even after 20 minutes. I am not sure if it is due to the porting process. In order to port my phone number, my current setting is to connect the "wall" on the hub to the internet/phone modem provided by Cablevision (I am using the triple play) and the "phone" on the hub to the wall jack. By splitting the line from the internet/phone modem, I am having two lines with the same number. I will provide a follow up after the porting is completed.
