Great game January 5, 2009 Gamer's Mom (Pittsburgh, PA USA) I purchased Rock Band 2 for PS3 for my son and his wife. My son purchased an additional guitar, and with our other children soon had a rock band with four parts: drummer, bass, guitar, and vocals. Out of the box, the song list includes titles that the younger generation (14 - 24 yr. olds) enjoys as well as songs that their 45-yr. old parents remembered from years ago. My son was also able to import the songs from the older version of Rock Band. The ability to import these songs was a consideration in selecting Rock Band 2 over Guitar Hero World Tour. Ordering the game through Amazon made it easy to have it delivered (free!) to my son's apartment several states away.
A GREAT SOCIAL GAME December 30, 2008 CARLOS MENDEZ (MIAMI, FL USA) I bought this game a few months ago, just after the release of Guitar Hero World Tour. I wanted to wait for the two to be out in order to buy the better game. I decided to go with rock band 2 after reading more favorable reviews. Let me summarize my review with: If you are a person that enjoys rock music, you should definitely get this. This game is incredibly fun to play with friends, and also very fun to play with alone. It also gives you the option to rock out online, which is a also tremendously fun. The instruments are also great, and the new drums are wireless and noticeably better quality than rock band 1's drums. The guitar is better than the original rock band, but I still think that guitar hero's guitars are much better. The drums make much less sound than rock band 1's drums which is wonderful because you will not get distracted if the drummer sucks and is going at a different rythm. I recently bought guitar hero world tour as well, just the game, and I would just like to point out that it is also a very good game, but I still believe that rock band 2 is better. I bought only the game (not the instruments) since the instruments are compatible (not sure if rock band 1's instruments are compatible, but rock band 2's are). Overall, I would definitely recommend this game because it is a great party game for anyone, men and women, girls and boys. The music list is awesome and you can always buy more songs online.
Best Game Ever!! December 28, 2008 Dana R. Taylor (Cincinnati, Oh) I bought this as a family Christmas gift for my 4 children and we absolutely love it. I love the no fail level which allows my younger kids to play without the plug being pulled to give them the effect of actually playing in a band. The strum on the guitar is a little off the timer click at times, but no big deal. The different levels are very challenging and its fun for the whole family no matter what the ages. We are actually having a lot more visitors come to the house in order to sing a few chorus', and I thought they were just dropping by to see how we were doing, lol.
What a BLAST !!! December 28, 2008 Jacklyn Mechling (Dowell, MD United States) We had so much fun that we did not want the night to end!!!! The whole family, from Dad age 57, to all the kids ages 18 to 25 years. This was such awesome FAMILY time that we hated to see our son take it home. The guitar, drums and mic make you feel just like your playing in a real band.
Great game with faults..... December 26, 2008 C. Leonard Hardware worked out of the box. The controllers are compatible with Guitar Hero World Tour. Great Family fun if everyone can put up with the bad songs on the list. Pros: Controller compatiblity is extensive. Drum controller is quiet if the person using them isn't over zealous. The Guitar controller's strum bar is silent. Long song list. The Career mode is more realistic than the ones in GH. You have to earn your Five Stars. Drums are more challenging in this game than GHWT, and the patterns follow real drumming (as far as I know). Works perfectly on my family's HD TV. Cons: Some of the songs are really horrible and the worse one is Rebel Girl by far. That song is the reason that you should be able to mute the singer. Guitar can be frustrating if you've played GH a lot. The scrolling notes are really small if you don't have a 30"+ TV screen, and it's hard to read a lot of the text if you don't have a large TV. The Guitar Hero World Tour guitar is better in some ways. The Overdrive activator for the guitar isn't sensitive enough, and the select button (the alternate way of activating it) is placed in an awkward spot. A lot of repeats from the GHWT song list. "Battle of the Bands" requires you to purchase downloadable songs. There will be times will you be required to play the same songs over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again. There only so many times you can play "Go Your Own Way" before you go insane (I counted 8 times in Madrid alone). Some songs get repeated in the same city in all of the pregenerated set lists. But don't worry, because most of the songs that get repeated will not be songs you like anyways so you wont get sick of playing your favorite band's songs..... There are a ton of songs in the game to choose from, and I have no clue why the game repeats the same crappy ones at O.C.D. levels. There is no doubt that this is a fun game. It's a bit expensive, but if you buy this version you wont have to get the band kit for the other games. Or if you've bought the GHWT band kit, then all you really need to get is the standalone game. But you do need two guitar controllers for a full band, for bass and lead guitar.
