4 out of 5 stars It's black   November 23, 2008
Andrew Hales
Well, at the time I bought this (and wrote this) the xbox 360 Elite was about 400 dollars compared to the pro that was 250 dollars. I am normally considered a practical person, for such reason i had always strongly leaned toward buying the 360 pro, its cheaper and has half the HD. I eventually decided on the elite due to the HDMI output, i sometimes like to run stuff off of my PC monitor which uses DVI and I have a HDMI to DVI cord. So I am able to get HD out of the console without spending the large amounts of money on an HD TV. So far it has been great, no scratch discs and such (of course to make sure that does not happen i lay it horizontal). All in all it has been pretty good, I only wish they would drop the price since even now I still do not know if HDMI and 120G HD is worth the 150 more than a pro. Well at least it is black, and the black does make it look very stylish.

5 out of 5 stars Great Bundle   October 22, 2008

This Xbox 360 Elite comes with 2 great games that are playable for the whole family. It also has a bunch of memory, so you do not have to worry about downloading videos and movies, game maps, etc. It comes with HD cables for sound and video and also standard. Very quiet and I have had it for numerous months with no problems what so ever. The Elite will almost never give you any problems and if it does, you can ship it into Microsoft for a free fix which unfortunately takes about 4 weeks.

2 out of 5 stars buggy piece of hardware   October 9, 2008
*
I purchased the Elite on October 1, 2008. Unfortunately, the console I received does not have the newest chipset. Though I've not played it a lot yet (I bought if for Fable 2, which isn't out yet), it's been amazingly undependable.

The first time I turn it on for any individual sitting, there is no picture. Turning it off-and-on again, however, does supply a picture. I have it connected via an HDMI cable to a Samsung HD flatscreen (model number LN-R268W), which I've had for years and never had a problem with before. It's not the TV (my DVD player works fine via HDMI), nor the cable, so it must be the console. First call to tech support was unhelpful; I imagine I'll have to eventually send it for repair.

At other times, I get a single red ring and a system error message that tells me to call customer support. Turning the console on and off makes it work properly. I called tech support about that too and they were unhelpful.

Though I don't regret buying it (yet), I'm amazed at how buggy it is and how poor customer service seems to be (why on earth can't I buy the extra warranty protection via XBox Live?). As a longtime Mac and Wii user, everything about the XBox strikes me as clunky and poorly designed.

I've been using this model for over a month now. No issues so far.
